ऋषिवर्याः आश्रमेषु निवसन्ति ।
Sages reside in hermitages.
आश्रमाः अरण्येषु नदीनां तटेषु वर्तन्ते ।
Hermitages are in the forests on the river banks.
तापसाः नगरे जीवनं नेच्छन्ति ।
Sages don’t like city life.
नगरजीवनं चित्तं कलुषयति ।
City life pollutes the mind.
आश्रमपरिसरः प्रशान्तः वर्तते ।
The environment of hermitages is peaceful.
आश्रमं परितः उन्नताः वृक्षाः विराजन्ते ।
Around the hermitage there are tall trees.
आपगानां सलिलं प्रसन्नं मधुरं भवति
The water of rivers is pure and sweet.
आपगाः पर्वतात् उद्भवन्ति ।
Rivers arise from the mountains.
तापसानां तपः एव धनम् ।
For the sages penance itself is wealth.
तेषां प्रभावेण वन्याः मृगाः अपि दौर्जन्यं
परित्यजन्ति ।
By their influence wild animals also give up
cruelty.
आश्रमस्य परिसरः चित्तकालुष्यं निर्मूलयति ।
Environment of the hermitage removes the
pollution of mind.
अनेके शिष्याः ग्रामेभ्यः नगरेभ्यः च विद्यार्जनाय
प्रतिवर्षम् आगच्छन्ति ।
Many students from the villages and towns come
to hermitage seeking knowledge every year.
अध्यापकाः प्राज्ञाः सुशीलाः च भवन्ति ।
Teachers are wise and of good character.
तत्र छात्राः वेदविद्यां शास्त्रविद्यां च
अभ्यस्यन्ति ।
There the students learn Vedas and Shaastras.
विरामकालेषु तापसाः अध्यापकाः अपि शिष्यान्
अध्यापयन्ति विना शिक्षणशुल्कम् ।
In their free time, sages who are the teachers
teach students without any fees.
सर्वेषाम् अशनस्य वसनस्य च सुव्यवस्था विद्यते।
There is a good arrangement for everybody’s food
and clothing needs.
छात्राः विरामकालेषु आश्रमोपयुक्तान्शाकान्,
पुष्पाणि, फलानि, धान्यानि च स्वयमेव
उत्पादयन्ति।
Students in their free time grow vegetables,
flowers, fruits and grains necessary for the needs
of the hermitage.
तापसानां तपःप्रभावेन पर्जन्यः काले वर्षति ।
By the effect of sages’ penance, the clouds
shower rain in proper time.
सस्यानि अत्यधिकं फलानि वितरन्ति ।
Plants give more fruits.
रोगाणां वार्तापि न विद्यते ।
There is no news of any disease.
शिष्येषु परस्परं सौहार्दम् अभिवर्धते ।
Friendship among students increases.
रागद्वेषादयः दुर्गुणाः निर्मूलाः भवन्ति ।
Attachment, Enmity and other bad qualities get
eradicated.
दिने दिने शिष्याः विनीताः भवन्ति ।
Day by day students become more polite.
अत एव सत्पात्राणि भवन्ति ।
That is why they become more deserving.
ते उत्तमं धनं सम्पाद्य धर्मकार्याय विनियोजयन्ति ।
They earn good money and use them for doing
good deeds.
ततः उत्तमं सुखं शान्तिं तृप्तिं च लभन्ते ।
From that they earn good happiness, peace and
satisfaction.
विद्या ददाति विनयं विनयाद् याति पात्रताम् ।
पात्रत्वात् धनमाप्नोति धनाद् धर्मं ततः सुखम् ॥
Knowledge gives politeness/humility. Through
humility, a man becomes deserving. A deserving
man earns wealth. Using the wealth, he does
righteous deeds, through which he attains
happiness.
